Why should you get a Utah Concealed Firearm Permit?

To start off, your Utah permit is valid in over 30 states. That means that you will be able to carry a fully loaded, concealed firearm in a state where your permit is recognized (Colorado, Florida, Michigan and New Hampshire only recognize the Utah permit from Utah residents). Take a look at the following map to see where the Utah permit is recognized. States with a Red or Black color recognize the Utah permit.

Cost:

The class will cost $75 and prepayment is required to reserve your seat (Google Checkout Button below). In addition to the 4 hour class, you will receive everything that you need to get your Utah permit (fingerprints, passport photo and a photocopy of your driver license). After the course is over, our instructor will hand deliver the application for you. Space is limited and classes are filling up fast so register below to reserve your seat. In addition to the $75 for the class + materials, you will have to pay the State of Utah $65.25 for the actual permit (the State accepts checks and credit cards). You can send that payment along with our instructor to Utah.

All about pocket pistols

A selection of pocket pistols for concealed carry

Over the last year or so, I’ve been carrying with a pocket pistol as my concealed carry. Now, in order to carry in the pocket, you’ve obviously got to select a pistol that is small enough to fit inside of the pocket. Going with a smaller sized pistol also means that you lose several fine pistols from which to choose. In this post, I’ll talk about four pocket pistols that I have personally carried and enjoyed a great deal.

You might be asking yourself right now why you’d want to carry in the pocket as apposed to some other location. The first major reason is convenience. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been just hanging around the house (with a pistol nearby of course) and the wife asks me to run to the store. Given the choice, I’d have my 1911 in .45 ACP with me at all times but there are some instances where I just don’t have the time or patience to put my holster inside my pants and hook up belt to carry that beloved pistol…enter the pocket pistol.

The pocket pistol, due to it’s small size and compact frame features allows me to grab a pistol, put it inside of a readily available holster and just slide it into my pocket. When I get back from the store, I just slide it right back out and it’s into the safe until I’m ready to roll again.

Another great thing about the pocket pistol for concealed carry is the way in which you deploy the firearm. So, imagine this…bad guy comes up to you with a knife drawn and says, “give your wallet.” You reach inside your pocket, as if to grab your wallet, pull out the pistol, the holster stays inside of your pocket because you’ve practiced how to draw it from concealment, and BAM! Bad guy is done for.

The last thing that I love about pocket pistols is that in today’s world of iphone/android phones, it doesn’t look at that obvious for someone to have a pistol in their pocket.

So here are the pistols that I carry in a pocket holster:

A variety of my favorite pocket pistols for concealed carry

From left to right, you’ve got the S&W M642 in 38SPL+P, the Bond Arms Texas Defender in .410/45LC, the Kel Tec P3AT in 380 ACP and the North American Arms revolver in .22 WMR.

Concealed Carry holsters for these pocket pistols

In this photo, you can see those same pistols in their pocket holsters. My personal favorite is the holster with the Kel Tec. It’s just a basic pocket leather holster but the thing I love about it is that it truly profiles just like a wallet. Way cool for concealed carry! Oh yeah, take a look at the .410. Who ever said that a pocket pistol had to be a small caliber pistol? What do you think? Have you used a pocket pistol? What holster/pistol combo do you like?
